It’s just a few days until this year’s E3, and one of the titles we’re definitely going to be scoping out is Trion Worlds’ “transmedia” MMO, Defiance. However, if you’re willing to spoil your trade show appetite for a small advance reveal, we’ve got a treat for you: the Defiance E3 trailer.

The trailer shows more of Defiance’s gameplay, including an arkfall event that will be one of the cornerstone of the game’s experience. The narration in the trailer is performed by the show’s star, Grant Bowler.

We also learned that both Defiance the TV show and Defiance the MMO will simultaneously launch in April 2013.

Check out the trailer below, and stay tuned as we get our hands on the first-ever public demo of this game at E3 next week.

Defiance Pilot Production Begins…

Syfy and Trion Worlds are thrilled to announce that production on the Defiance™ pilot episode commences today. Combining a star-studded cast with an elite production team, this groundbreaking transmedia experience is poised to unite TV and massively multiplayer online gaming for the very first time.

Defiance stars Grant Bowler (True Blood), Julie Benz (Dexter), Jaime Murray (Warehouse 13), Tony Curran (League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Blade II), Stephanie Leonidas (Mirrormask,BBC’s Dracula), and Graham Greene (Dances with Wolves), plus recent additions Mia Kirshner (Not Another Teen Movie, 24) and Fionnula Flanagan (Lost) as fascinating characters whom you’ll get to meet in the game.

Defiance also reunites much of the Battlestar Galactica production team, including visual effects supervisor Gary Hutzel (Battlestar Galactica, Caprica), composer Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica), and writers David Weddle and Bradley Thompson (Falling Skies,Battlestar Galactica). Rounding out the team are language and culture consultant David J. Peterson (Game of Thrones) and three-time Oscar-winning costume supervisor Colleen Atwood (Alice in Wonderland, Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha, Edward Scissorhands).

The landmark pilot is directed by Scott Stewart (Legion, Priest) and written/executive produced by Rockne O’Bannon (Farscape), Kevin Murphy (Desperate Housewives, Caprica, Hellcats) & Michael Taylor (Battlestar Galactica). Kevin Murphy serves as showrunner.

Defiance TV Show and MMO

Science fiction TV channel Syfy has reportedly begun production on the pilot of Defiance, that previously announced huge transmedia property in conjunction with Trion Worlds. The idea is that there will be both a TV show and an MMO, and that narratives and actions from each one will intersect in some way with the other. The pilot will star Dexter’s Julie Benz, 24′s Mia Kirshner, and True Blood’s Grant Bowler, and feature writing by David Weddle and Bradley Thompson, and music by Bear McCreary, who all worked together on the popular Battlestar Galactica series.

The show will take place on a destroyed future earth, where “human and alien survivors of a universal war” have to work together to build a new society. Trion Worlds (creators of Rift and End of Nations) is putting the MMO together, and both the game and the Defiance TV series are expected out in Spring 2013.

The beta will begin whenever Trion decides it is time for Defiance to go into that stage. That’s right, Trion is going to be hitting up this year’s Gamescom with all three of their major titles. Let’s hope that we can get some really awesome information about Defiance, and perhaps a trailer or a couple of gameplay videos.

So, don’t expect to get any hands-on playtime with Defiance at Gamescom. Oh well, it looks like things are going good for the game so far. It’s nice seeing that they just redid the weapon system to make things a little easier. Make sure to keep checking back with us to see what kind of information comes from this event.
